Sugarcoating the Past?

Film Editor for 'Sugarcoating the Past?' A filmed performance at GoMA, Glasgow.
This work was created as part of the GoMA commission, a response to 19th century museum objects related to the history of the GoMA building, legacies of Empire, and the transatlantic slave trade.
Manu Kurewa is a Glasgow based filmmaker and visual artist. Some of his work have been shown and won awards at major international festivals. His interests are also in stage drama where he is involved in community theatre, developing work that celebrates achievements as well as raise local concerns. Manu is currently doing an art residency as part of Glasgow Life's Creative communities: Artists in Residency scheme. He is also currently developing a feature script with FilmFour.

Sugarcoating the Past? (The Discussion)

Filmmaker and visual artist Manu Kurewa has been commissioned by GoMA to create new work - his film 'Sugarcoating the Past? (The Discussion)' - in response to 19th century museum objects related to the history of the GoMA building, legacies of Empire, and the transatlantic slave trade.
Manu’s film, alongside newly commissioned writing by Heshani Sothiraj Eddleston and the three objects that the artists choose to work with, is now on display inside the 'Domestic Bliss' exhibition at GoMA. The display was launched on September 16, 2023.
